Windows 7 First-hand Experience

**UPDATED** As I am writing this blog, my kaisha PC is installing a beta copy of Windows 7 (release date: 2010). My initial impression is that this OS is just a hyped Vista-64 (for PCs with 4GB++ RAM). But if this OS is able to impress the geek in me, I may try it out and replace the Vista64 on my Asus G50v gaming laptop. I will be updating this blog when my installation finishes.

Its now saying, "Preparing Desktop" :-)

[Update]

Windows 7 Ultimate (beta) has just finished installing. First impression: "crap!" :-) Unless ur running Quad-Core with at least 4GB of RAM and a solid video card, I would not recommend this OS. As i have initally thought, its basically Windows Vista 64 with a new name and devours a lot more resources! Typical Microsoft. But that's just my first impression so don't take my word for it :-)

The fish on my desktop wallpaper looks nice though! :)

[Update again]

I am starting to change my opinion about Windows 7..having explored its UI a little bit more. With a little getting-used-to, the new UI seems to be friendlier than that of Vista. The new calculator is also sweeettt! The new programmer-mode allows you to make Hex, Octal, Bin, Word, Dword, etc calculations. The snipping tool is pretty cool too! This does not absolve Windows 7 though for being a resource-hog! I am just giving it a little slack :)

If you are willing to overlook hardware requirements, I guess Windows 7 is quite acceptable given its friendlier UI. But if u ask me, given the tradeoff, I still would not recommend it :)

That's weird. Almost all tech blogs that I've come across say that Windows 7 is lighter and faster compared to Vista.

They even say that it's what Vista ought to be.

I also read that it's so light that it even runs well on netbooks.
